Since 1991 he has been Professor of Management and Organization at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland (http://www.unisg.ch/en.aspx) and Director of its Institute of Management.
2005-07 he was Dean of its business school, and 1997-2007 Managing Director of the Institute of Management.
Before 1991 he was Professor of Strategic Planning, Organization and Human Resource Management at Duisburg University (Germany).
He studied Business Administration at the University of Regensburg (Germany) and was research assistant at the Department of Statistics (Prof. Dr. Oskar Anderson) and at the Institute for Organizational Science (Prof. Dr. Werner Kirsch) at the University of Munich (Germany).
He was invited for doing research at Harvard Business School, Stanford Business School, University of Michigan Business School and University of California Irvine.
He was supervisor of more than 30 doctoral thesis and 3 habilitations.
He is author of a large number of books and publications mainly in the field of strategic management. He co-authored a well-established german textbook on “Strategic Management”. His recent fields of interest are corporate strategy, mergers & acquisitions and strategy process. He is executive education trainer, consultant and member of the advisory board of several international companies.
