Dirk Matthys currently is CEO of the Future Pipe Industries Group, the world’s leader in design and manufacturing of composite large diameter fiberglass pipe systems and offering bespoke pipe system solutions for the water, O&G and industrial sectors.
From 2013 to mid 2016 Dr Matthys was CEO of the Engicon Group active in design, engineering and manufacturing of storage tanks, dry bulk handling installations andpressure vessels for the oil & gas, chemical and petrochemical industries. During this period he was also active as a consultant in the renewable energy as well as the metals and mining sector.
From 2009 to 2012 Dirk Matthys was active in the wind energy sector, first as Chairman & CEO of Gamesa North America, active in wind turbine manufacturing, wind farm operations & maintenance and wind farm development, and later as Chairman & CEO of Gamesa North & Eastern Europe.
Before that he worked two decades in the steel industry in various positions and most recently with ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel producer.
He has a wide international experience in general management, strategy, sales & marketing and distribution as well as operations, having lived and worked in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Mr. Matthys received his Ph.D. from the University of Ghent in Belgium, where he was affiliated as a guest professor at the department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Product Design until 2018. He was a Visiting Researcher at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and holds master’s degrees in civil engineering as well as in industrial management.
